Reg commenced practising at the Bar in 2007, after a distinguished academic career, in which she had been a Professor of Law at both the University of Sydney and UNSW. She has also held a number of visiting professorial appointments at law schools in the USA, Canada, South Africa, and France. She has been Emeritus Professor of Law at the University of Sydney since 2012.

She was a full time Law Reform Commissioner for NSW from 1998 to 2002, and has been a  part time member of the Australian Law Reform Commission, and has also served on a number of federal tribunals and government advisory bodies.

She has advised on a diverse range of legal issues and has appeared in the Supreme Court of NSW (and the NSW Court of Appeal), the Federal Court of Australia (and the Full Federal Court), the High Court of Australia, the NSW Land and Environment Court, and a range of other courts and tribunals, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
